AiXFreightDesign system · v1
Land · Air · Ocean · One journey

One chain.
Every lane.
Zero guesswork.

The AiXFreight design system: brand foundations, a component library and reusable templates — each shaped by ten laws of UX so every screen feels calm, fast and trustworthy.

Foundations

Color, type and the route motif

Navy is the ground. AI Orange is the one signature accent — reserved for the primary action and anything the AI did. Mode colors follow industry convention and are never reassigned.

Route motif

Dashed gold path = the journey. Land dot at origin, ocean dot at destination, orange ring where the AI intervened. Pills and progress rings borrow the chain-link shape from the mark.

Principles

Ten laws of UX, applied

Every component and template below was checked against these. Each card says what the law is — and the concrete rule it produced in this system.

01

Jakob's law

Users spend most of their time on other products; they expect yours to work the same way.

In this systemSidebar-left app shell, search in the top bar, primary action top-right. Tables read shipment → lane → mode → status → ETA, the order every freight tool uses.
02

Fitts's law

Time to hit a target depends on its size and distance.

In this systemControls are 40px tall by default (32 minimum, 48 for hero CTAs). Row click targets span the full table row. Dialog actions sit together, primary last.
03

Hick's law

Decision time grows with the number and complexity of choices.

In this systemOne orange primary button per view. The AI copilot proposes a single recommended route, with alternatives collapsed behind it. Filters are chips, not dropdown stacks.
04

Miller's law

People hold about seven items in working memory.

In this systemFive nav items. Four stat cards. Milestones grouped into five steps, IDs chunked MSKU 482 119-0.
05

Law of proximity

Objects near each other are perceived as a group.

In this system4px spacing scale: 8 inside a control, 16 between related fields, 24 card padding, 32–48 between sections. Eyebrow + title + body are always one tight stack.
06

Von Restorff effect

The item that differs from the rest is the one remembered.

In this systemAI Orange appears exactly once per view — the primary action, or the AI's intervention on a route. Everything else is navy, slate and mode color.
07

Aesthetic–usability effect

Designs that look good are perceived as easier to use.

In this systemCondensed uppercase display type, mono captions and navy-tinted shadows give a control-tower confidence. No gradients, no decorative illustration; the chain mark is the only ornament.
08

Doherty threshold

Productivity soars when system and user interact under 400ms.

In this systemTransitions are 120–320ms on an ease-out curve. Quotes refresh as you type; recommendations show confidence instantly and confirm with a toast, never a full-page reload.
09

Peak-end rule

Experiences are judged by their peak and their end.

In this systemApplying an AI recommendation is the peak: a focused dialog with cost, impact and confidence, then a navy toast with Undo. Delivery is the end: the timeline completes in navy with the last dot filled.
10

Tesler's law

Every system has complexity that cannot be removed — decide who carries it.

In this systemMode, incoterm and consolidation logic default to "Let AI decide". The user sees one estimate and one choice; the complexity lives in the copilot, exposed on demand.
Guidance

Accessibility, states, motion, layout

The rules that keep every screen consistent. Full specimens live in the Design System tab; prose in guidelines/.

Accessibility

Contrast, focus, targets

Body text ≥ 4.5:1 (approved pairs listed). 3px orange focus ring on every control. 44px touch / 40px desktop targets. Color never the only signal. prefers-reduced-motion honored.

Interaction states

Hover · press · select · active

Hover darkens one step in 120ms; press scales .98; disabled is 45% opacity. Selection fills navy; the active item alone carries a 3px orange bar or underline.

Motion

One curve, three durations

Ease-out .2,.8,.2,1 at 120 / 200 / 320ms. Enter fades and rises 8px; exit fades only. Nothing bounces.

Layout

Grid, breakpoints, z-index

240 sidebar · 56 topbar · 28 gutter · 2:1 content split. ≥1280 full, 900–1279 rail, <900 stacked. Elevation ladder 0 → 200 (toast).

Patterns

Loading, empty, error, AI

Skeleton for known shapes, EmptyState for zero results, Alert for recoverable errors. AI output always shows cost, impact, confidence, a “Why this” disclosure with sources and limits, then Review → Dialog → Toast with Undo → thumbs. Every AI surface is instrumented for six human metrics — learnability, trust, confidence, transparency, satisfaction, cognitive load. Rules in ai-ux.md.

Theming

Light & dark

Light by default, follows the system in "System", explicit via data-theme. Brand primitives never change — only semantic aliases and mode-color steps. Switch it in the header; every screen re-skins with no component changes. Rules in theming.md.

Library

Components

Thirty-eight primitives in six groups — core, forms, navigation, feedback, data, surfaces — rendered live from the compiled bundle. Every one ships with a props contract and a usage prompt.

Reuse
